Tools I use and recommend

Web Hosting

My favorite thing about Siteground is their stellar customer support. If I ever have a question or am confused about something, a Siteground expert is just a chat window away. My experience with their customer care team has been uniformly excellent.

My second favorite thing about Siteground (and maybe it should be my first) is that it just plain works. I’ve never had an issue with my site being down. According to Siteground, they are faster, safer and offer better support than other web hosts. Based on my experience, I would agree with this assessment.

I personally use the GrowBig plan, and would recommend it if you have even an inkling that you’ll launch more than one website in the future.

I switched over to ConvertKit recently from another popular email service provider (ESP) after I attended the Podcast Movement conference. At one of the breakout sessions, the panel was asked what ESP they used, and one after the other, they said “ConvertKit,” “ConvertKit,” “ConvertKit”. Now I see why.

ConvertKit says they built specifically for professional bloggers, but whether you’re a blogger, a podcaster or a Youtuber, I think you’ll find ConvertKit a joy and a relief to use.

My favorite thing about ConvertKit is its ease of use. Compared to the other provider I was using, ConvertKit’s user experience is intuitive and user-friendly. Setting up automation sequences, which was a royal pain with the other provider, is a smooth process in ConvertKit, especially with their new Visual Automation feature.

Books I've read and recommend

The Art of Nonconformity

This is one of those foundational books you need to read if you’re contemplating living an unconventional life. Chris Guillebeau'’s topics include living on your own terms, breaking through fear, how to build your own small army, how to establish your legacy.

Big Magic: Creative Living Beyond Fear

If you’re a creator of any kind, you will surely find this book by “Eat, Pray, Love” author Elizabeth Gilbert inspiring. Elizabeth presents a fun, no-nonsense take on how to approach your creative life, how to relate to fear, overcome perfectionism, and more. One of my favorite sayings of hers that I like to keep in mind: “Done is better than good.”

You Are a Badass

This is the Self-Help book for people who hate Self-Help books. Jen’s humorous, no-B.S. tone cuts to the chase with chapter titles like “Your Brain is a Bitch” and “Fear is for Suckers”. One of my favorites was her chapter on your relationship with money. I’m looking forward to reading her follow up, “You Are a Badass at Making Money.”

The Millionaire Messenger

If you have a message to share and want to become an expert by becoming an author, speaker, coach, blogger, seminar leader or podcast host, this book is for you. Motivational master Brendon Burchard breaks down everything you need to build your expert empire, including a 10-step plan for making an impact and an income with what you know.

The Message of You

I attended comedian and storyteller Judy Carter's workshop and read her book a couple years ago and it was a game changer. In the Message of You, Judy walks you through how to  tell your authentic story and turn in to a profitable speaking career.

Passion, Plan, Profit

I highly recommend Passion, Plan, Profit, which takes you through a 12-step process to turn your idea into a full-fledged, passion-based business. It walks you through the nuts and bolts of how to create your vision and mission, a business plan, a spending and earning plan and more.
